For starters…
By now, you have heard about what Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech quarterback Trey Dawson did last Friday night against Woodland Regional in Beacon Falls.
Dawson threw for 491 yards — repeat, 491 yards — and five touchdowns in a 67-28 victory. Tyler Rudolph caught 11 balls for 210 yards and scored three total touchdowns while Courie Stevenson hauled in four passes for 115 yards and two scores. Those stats are via Kyle Brennan of the Waterbury Republican-American, and they’re still just as eye-popping as they were when they appeared in Kyle’s story online last week. Sacred Heart’s MaxPreps site, with stats entered by Phil Dawson, credited Trey with 537 yards passing.
Another massive rushing effort by the Falcons
St. Paul stayed on the ground at Watertown, and it resulted in a 26-6 victory.
Pierce Piana amassed 195 yards on 26 carries while backfield mate Damien Rabis tallied 193 on 10 rushes with two touchdowns. Kevin Ashworth ran seven times for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Those stats come from the team’s Hudl account.
The St. Paul defense was also terrific. Watertown had a single first down in the first half, four for the game. Noah Mendoza and Zach Parent had five tackles each while Connor Bogdanski and Dom Aiello both tallied four.
Iorio goes over 200 on the ground for Wolcott
Ray Iorio rushed for 205 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries, and the Eagles improved to 2-1 with a 39-28 home win over the Crosby Bulldogs.
Quarterback Mike Polzella used his legs as well to the tune of 90 yards and a touchdown. Steve Urbanski ran a kickoff back 79 yards for a score. Justin Fernandes and Nick Longo caught touchdown passes while Anthony Ligi added a scoring run.
On defense, Wolcott had Mike Ciarlo with eight tackles, Dylan Prescott with seven and JJ Knapik with seven.
The stats are from the team’s Hudl account.
Holy Cross gets first win
Led by the tandem of Corey Fappiano and Adam Razza, the Crusaders picked up their first victory.
Fappiano had nine completions, and Razza caught eight of them as Holy Cross won going away, 42-12 over Wilby at Alumni Field. Mark Jaffee of the Rep-Am had Fappiano down for 199 passing yards and Razza with 187 receiving. Razza caught four touchdowns.
First win for Bristol Central as well
The Rams needed every yard they got from Luis Medina and Isaiah Miller in claiming a 30-26 win over the Platt Panthers at Muzzy Field.
Kelly McCabe, a teacher at Bristol Central who reported for The Bristol Press, had Medina with 231 yards rushing and two touchdowns, plus a receiving touchdown. Miller rushed for 86 yards and a score, and he threw a touchdown.
