The Crosby boys basketball team couldn’t have done much better than Tuesday’s 90-56 win over New London in the inaugural CPTV Sports Tip-Off Classic in Meriden.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs played their first game on the newly-renamed Augelli Court, but the Wilby Wildcats spoiled the fun. Wilby upset Crosby 79-77 on Wednesday night in a game that proves that easy nights are rare in the NVL, especially in the city.
The Wildcats were hammered by Sacred Heart, 112-81, on Dec. 21 in the season opener for both teams. Wilby had plenty of time to regroup, and apparently they did.
Big nights from Dimitri Yates (23 points), Damian Grant (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Darrien Bell (12) were key for the Wildcats in the victory. Those stats come courtesy of Joe Palladino of the Waterbury Republican-American.
Jeremiah Kendall led Crosby with 19 points.
Wilby doesn’t play again until next Tuesday (Jan. 5), when they travel to Beacon Falls for a 5:15 game against Woodland.
Crosby also won’t play until next Tuesday, when they host Naugatuck at 7 p.m.
