The Sacred Heart girls swimming and diving team finished in third place at the Class S championships for the second straight season.
The Hearts were third behind champion Weston and second place East Catholic after Tuesday night’s meet at Wesleyan University’s Freeman Athletic Center in Middletown.
Several other local teams and swimmers competed on Tuesday. St. Paul took 13th place, Holy Cross was 17th, Wolcott was 23rd and Kaynor Tech was 27th. In the case of both Wolcott and Kaynor Tech, it was just individual swimmers competing (neither school has a swim team).
Junior Erin Brown provided Sacred Heart’s best finish of the night when she second in the 100-yard backstroke. The Hearts also got a third place finish out of their 400 freestyle relay (team of senior Alizabeth Sullivan, junior Abby Walsh, Brown and senior Kiersten Snyder).
St. Paul saw two seniors put together strong efforts. Kim Hylan was second in the 100
freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle. Sarah Bowes was second in the
50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle. The Falcon 200 freestyle
relay finished seventh (team of freshman Molly Guglielmino, Bowes,
junior Morgan Middleton and Hylan).
For Holy Cross, sophomore Maddie Mowad placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke. The Crusaders also took sixth in the 200 freestyle relay (team of sophomore Aiyana Ward, freshman Hannah Brown, freshman Allie Brown and Mowad).
Wolcott senior Carrington Conner was seventh in the 100 butterfly and 14th in the 200 IM. Kaynor Tech senior Jaime Boulier took 13th in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle.
