Mallory, Bozzuto ready for SCSU’s Midnight Madness

It’s a big night for the Southern Connecticut State University men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Midnight Madness begins at Moore Field House at 10:30 p.m., according to the team’s website. It’s the first chance for Owl fans to see their teams, and there will be contests throughout the night, including a slam dunk competition.
There’s a local connection to the SCSU men’s team, coached by former UConn standout and NBA player Scott Burrell. Burrell first made his name as a standout athlete at Hamden High a School and is in his first season as head coach of the Owls.
Junior guard Mike Mallory, who played for Holy Cross High School, is one of nine returning players on the squad. Mallory played in all 32 games last season and made 18 starts. He averaged 29.8 minutes per game. Mallory was second on the team in scoring at 18.3 points per game and led the team in 3-pointers with 90. He was second on the team in steals with 55.
Also back for the Owls is junior guard Mike Bozzuto, who played for Wolcott High School. Bozzuto played in 15 games off the bench last season. Bozzuto shot 30 percent from the field and 25 percent on 3-pointers in limited playing time.
The SCSU men are ranked 13th nationally by the Division II Bulletin. The Owls open the season on Nov. 14 against Dominican in Bridgeport.
