I was able to take a quick look at St. Paul boys soccer today. The Falcons hosted the Oxford Wolverines in a NVL match at St. Paul Catholic High School. The match started 15 minutes late due to Oxford’s bus getting stuck in traffic.
The Wolverines appeared a little lackadaisical in the beginning, and the home side took advantage. Junior Mike Dombrowski scored less than four minutes into the match. In the 12th minute, junior Eli Kennedy scored off a great pass from Dombrowski in the middle. Less than four minutes later, senior Tyler Greene tapped in a loose ball for a 3-0 lead.
Even with the big early advantage, senior captain and keeper Zach Federowicz was on his team to keep up the pressure.
“Seventy minutes still,” Federowicz yelled to a teammate after the second goal. “Stay focused.”
It’s that kind of veteran leadership that head coach Tony Leone hopes to be able to count on this season. Jackson Hines and Brian Rackliffe are senior captains, and they — along with Federowicz — create a tough defensive backfield to navigate.
Kennedy is a solid goal scorer with Dombrowski also provides a threat with his speed and tenacity.
Look for photos of St. Paul boys soccer on the blog in the near future.
