Bristol Public School sports back on with exception of wrestling

The winter sports teams in Bristol Public Schools, including those at Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern, have been allowed to return to practices and competitions following a COVID shutdown.

That doesn’t include wrestling, which will be reevaluated on Thursday morning, where a resumption plan will be shared, according to a message from Dr. Michael Dietter, Deputy Superintendent of Schools, that was posted on Monday. All winter sports activities were suspended on Dec. 23. The pause was put into place “due to an increase in positive COVID cases and confirmed transmissions among athletes,” according to a message from Dietter posted on Dec. 23.

Teams returned to competitions and practices on Monday, just in time for the Bristol Central Holiday Tournament, which involves the Ram boys and girls. The Central boys were scheduled to host Eastern this evening at 6 o’clock.

The suspension of winter sports was an especially interesting situation for the Bristol co-op boys swimming and diving team, which includes athletes from Central, Eastern and St. Paul, which is not governed by Bristol Public Schools.
