The Wolcott boys basketball team entered its Jan. 22 road game against Wilby with an 0-6 record.
The Eagles broke that winless streak with a 70-54 victory over the host Wildcats. It was the beginning of a solid seven-day stretch for Wolcott. The Eagles went 3-1 over those days, with the only loss coming at Torrington, 55-38, on Tuesday.
Wolcott ended the seven-day stretch with home wins over Ansonia and Derby. The Eagles edged past the Chargers, 60-59, on Wednesday, then downed the Red Raiders, 72-46, on Friday. Wolcott improved to 3-7 on the season.
Terrance Stevens averaged 24.3 points over the four games, including a high of 32 points, plus 11 rebounds, against Derby. Alex Forte averaged 13.3 ppg, including a high of 20 against Ansonia. Kawol Tawiah averaged six ppg over the four-game stretch.
Forte’s biggest moment of the week came against Ansonia. In the game’s final minute, Forte hit his fifth 3-pointer of the night. On top of it, Forte was fouled. He converted the free throw and the Eagles were able to hold off the Chargers. Stevens scored 22 points while Tawiah added eight points and 10 rebounds. Tawiah also had 10 boards against Derby.
Fuegen had a solid double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds against Derby.
Wolcott has a three-game week ahead of it, beginning with Oxford on the road Monday. The Eagles host Watertown on Tuesday and Kennedy on Thursday.
