Former Bristol Eastern standouts Karly Martin and Myah Croze have been key pieces during a successful Western Connecticut State University women’s soccer season. On Monday, the Colonials claimed three of the four women’s soccer weekly awards from the Little East Conference. Two of those honors went to Martin and Croze.
For the third time in the past four weeks, Martin was Little East Conference Goalkeeper of the Week. And for the second time this season, Croze was named LEC Rookie of the Week.
Martin made 12 saves in two games, both wins, for WCSU. She recorded four saves in a tight 2-1 victory at Eastern Connecticut State University, then picked up eight saves in a 5-1 win over Plymouth State University. Martin ran her record to 12-4. She has a goals against average of 1.22 and an .809 save percentage. Her save percentage ranks first in the LEC, and her goals against average is second. Martin is fifth in saves with 76.
Croze set up the game-winning goal against ECSU with an assist, then scored twice in the victory over Plymouth State. She ranks second in the LEC in goals with 15 and points with 32. Nearly half of Croze’s 97 shots, 48, have been on goal, and she has accounted for three game-winning goals.
Kyren Petteway, Central Connecticut State University football
The freshman and former standout at Waterbury Career Academy and Kingswood Oxford made a big impact on just two receptions in a 52-14 victory over Bryant University this past Saturday.
Petteway caught touchdown passes of 41 and 34 yards from Aaron Winchester as CCSU built a 14-0 lead over Bryant. With those two touchdown receptions, Petteway became the first Blue Devil freshman since Nick Bacarella to tally two scores of 30 or more yards in the same game. Bacarella did it on Oct. 22, 2011, against Albany, according to the CCSU athletics Twitter account.
Petteway was named Northeast Rookie of the Week for his performance. The two catches were the first ones this season, and they made a big impact on another victory for the Blue Devils (6-1).
Joe Kalosky, Endicott College football
The former Holy Cross standout and senior signal-caller threw four touchdown passes in a 61-34 victory for the Gulls against Curry College this past Saturday.
The 61 points Endicott scored tied for the third-most in program history. Kalosky completed 19 of his 23 pass attempts for 319 yards and four touchdowns to one interception. For the third time in the four games that Kalosky has played in this season, he threw three or more touchdowns. Kalosky completed touchdown passes of 25 yards and one yard to Justin McEwen, six yards to Ryan Nelson, and 70 yards to Anthony Bracamonte. The Gulls improved to 5-1 with the win.
Ariza Kolloverja, Western Connecticut State University football
This former Bristol Eastern standout got a chance to show off his hands in the second half of a 62-28 win over Westfield State University this past Saturday, and he didn’t disappoint.
Kolloverja had five catches for 77 yards, including a 14-yard touchdown. His longest reception of the day went for 25 yards. The sophomore had played in two games prior to this past Saturday, but he didn’t have a catch. That changed in a big way in the second half of the game against Westfield State.
