Undefeated Bristol Eastern girls volleyball has two big Class L matches this week

Bristol Eastern girls volleyball is 13-0 and ranked third in the Class L state tournament standings. The Lancers are third because there are two 15-0 teams (Guilford and Naugatuck) ahead of them.

Eastern faces a pair of big Class L matchups this week, starting with Platt (8-5) on Monday at 5 p.m. inside the Thomas Monahan Gymnasium. The Panthers are 14th in Class L and can’t be overlooked.

Wednesday could bring a showdown of epic proportions when it comes to regular season matches. If Eastern and RHAM (11-0, 4th in Class L) get through their Monday matches unscathed, they will stage an undefeated showdown on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at BEHS. The Sachems host a solid South Windsor squad (11-3, 7th in Class L) on Monday at 5 p.m.

Eastern has gotten standout performances from a multitude of players. Zoe Lowe leads the Lancers in kills with 188, or an average of 4.5 kills per set. Ryley Plourde has 63 kills while Hannah Webber has tallied 62 kills.

Lowe also leads the way in aces with 42, but she’s just one of four Eastern players with 21 or more aces. Leah Chipman (25), Brooke Dorsio (22) and Rebecca Bender (21) also hold that distinction. Bender (92.5 percent) and Dorsio (88.5 percent) both serve very accurately.

Webber is tops at the net with 26 blocks, of which 23 have been solo. Plourde is also in double digits with 15 blocks. Bender has 162 digs, or 3.9 per set. Chipman has been solid as a setter with 389 assists. Bender (192-204, .941), Lowe (178-192, .927) and Dorsio (119-130, .915) all have serve-receive percentages over 90 percent.

Aaliyah Burnley leads Platt with 124 kills and 18 blocks while Jazmir Hudson has tallied 89. Emily Hart has recorded team-highs in aces (65) and digs (123) and serve-receives (218); and Caitlyn Hart leads the way with 265 assists.

RHAM has been led by the three-headed attack of Kaylin Hadley, Gabriella Johnson and Hannah Mullaney.
