When St. Paul and Waterbury Career Academy met on the St. Paul baseball diamond, it was a matchup of undefeated teams.
Neither team had allowed a run in their three games combined. That changed in a big way on Thursday afternoon. St. Paul freshman Ryan Daniels homered twice, walked twice, singled, drove in five runs, and scored three more in a 14-4, six-inning win over WCA. Daniels’ second home run came in the sixth inning, a three-run shot that invoked the 10-run rule. The three hits for Daniels were the first of his varsity career. The Falcons improved to 2-0 while the Spartans dropped to 2-1.
Chris Mills homered, drove in two runs and scored two runs for St. Paul while Walker Sharp doubled, singled, drove in two runs and scored two more. Ryan Parent doubled, singled and scored two runs while Josh Cofrancesco added two hits and two runs scored. Ethan Rembish rounded out the Falcon attack with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
Jacob Torres doubled and drove in a run for WCA while Jonathan Castro added two RBI. Justin Castro had two hits and two runs scored.
St. Paul is scheduled to play Saturday at Class M semifinalist St. Joseph of Trumbull at 2 p.m.
