The Terryville Black Sox were 6-1 through their first seven Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League games, but their offense had yet to open up.
Terryville’s pitching had been strong, up until a 4-1 loss to the Tri-Town Trojans this past Saturday at Litchfield’s Community Field. The loss was the first for the Black Sox.
Terryville had another difficult game ahead of it Tuesday night when it faced the Naugatuck Dogs at Naugatuck’s Rotary Field. The Black Sox offense erupted in a big way, however, in an 8-0 victory over the Dogs. Terryville improved to 7-1 while Naugatuck dropped to 5-2.
The Black Sox smacked out 11 hits, including four from former Holy Cross standout Chris Callahan. Callahan had a two-run home run and scored three times. Kyle Skidmore, who also played for Holy Cross, ripped a three-run home run and drew a pair of walks. Chris Ayer, a pickup from the Watertown Blaze, added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Watertown isn’t fielding a team this season because of other commitments.
Kody Kerski, the former Crosby standout and minor league pitcher, tossed a three-hitter and struck out 10 in another dominant performance.
Terryville plays the Tribury Twisters on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at Bucks Hill Park.
