The Tri-Trown Trojans were off to a terrific 8-0 start in the Connecticut Tri-State Baseball League, until they ran into the Wolcott Scrappers on Tuesday evening.
Behind a complete game from Justin Koutros and a balanced offensive attack, Wolcott defeated Tri-Town 5-3 at Litchfield’s Community Field. The Trojans fell to 8-1 with their first loss while the Scrappers improved to 6-3. Wolcott has won three straight games since a three-game losing streak. The Scrappers started the season with a three-game winning streak.
Koutros gave up three runs on six hits on the mound. At the plate, Mike Vaccarelli, Ryan Soucy, Mike Perugini and Eric Soucy each had two hits for Wolcott.
The Scrappers started their three-game winning streak with a 7-3 victory over the Bethlehem Plowboys on June 10 at the BAW Complex. This past Saturday, Wolcott shut out the Torrington Rebels 7-0 at the BAW to run the streak to two. Tuesday’s win put the Scrappers three games over .500 for the second time this season.
