Two contests, two wins so far for Holy Cross High School in the fall state tournaments.
The No. 23 boys soccer team took down city rival Sacred Heart, No. 10, by a score of 2-0 in a Class S first round matchup at Ray Snyder Sr. Field. Jack Villano and Giuseppe Mongelluzzo had a goal apiece, and Kyle Moser made 15 saves. The Crusaders (6-7-4) are at No. 7 Coventry on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Hearts ended their season at 9-8-1.
Holy Cross girls volleyball, seeded 12th, made quick work of No. 21 MLC by a count of 3-0 in a Class S first round match at home. Meah Austin, Valerie Nobrega and Maia Regan led the way for the Crusaders (15-7), who play at No. 5 Goodwin Tech in New Britain on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Bristol Eastern girls volleyball, normally a home team in the Class L first round, was on the road at city rival Bristol Central on Monday evening. It didn’t matter to the No. 18 Lancers, who dispatched the No. 15 Rams 3-0, their third win over the season over their city foe. Eastern had many heroes on Monday night and served at a nearly perfect percentage of 94.6 as a team, according to a story in The Bristol Press. Amber Blais had 12 kills, Sienna White tallied 10, Zoe Lowe contributed seven and Gabriella Nozzolillo chipped in six. Ali Rivoira dished out 30 assists and Paige McLaughlin recorded 18 digs. It was a great team effort for the Lancers, who turned it up and didn’t stop until the final ball hit the floor. Eastern (15-8) is at No. 2 Killingly on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Central saw its season end with a record of 13-9.
Wolcott lost 3-2 at home to Sheehan in the first round of Class M volleyball. The NVL semifinalist Eagles concluded their season with a record of 14-8.
Two days after a Class L qualifying round road win, Bristol Eastern boys soccer ended its season with a 4-0 loss at top-seeded E.O. Smith. The final Lancer record was 6-8-4.
Bristol Central boys soccer also saw its season ended by a CCC foe. Maloney won the Class L first round match 2-0 at Falcon Field, and the Rams finished their season at 8-7-2.
Kennedy girls volleyball was eliminated by a score of 3-0 in a Class LL first round contest at Danbury. The Eagles ended with a record of 9-12.
Kaynor Tech girls volleyball was beaten 3-0 by CTC foe Wilcox Tech in first round Class M action. The Panthers finished the season at 9-12.
Kennedy boys soccer lost 6-0 at Wethersfield in a Class L first round matchup. Kennedy ended its season at 7-8-2.
Wolcott boys soccer was dispatched by Haddam-Killingworth by a score of 8-0 and saw its season end at 6-10-2.
