Wolcott native Cam Maldonado found his power stroke during a recent stretch while playing for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Maldonado has three home runs and three doubles on the season, and all but one double came in games played from July 7 to July 14. He doubled and drove in three runs against the Chatham Anglers on July 7, then blasted his first home run of the season and drove in two runs two days later against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks on July 9. Maldonado, who plays in college at Northeastern University in Boston, homered again and drove in three runs against the Orleans Firebirds on July 10. On July 12, he homered again, stole two bases and scored three times against the Cotuit Kettleers. On Sunday, Maldonado doubled, walked twice and drove in two runs.
In 19 games, Maldonado is hitting .284 with an .863 on-base plus slugging percentage (.400 on-base, .463 slugging). He ranks first on the Mariners in average, runs scored (15) and RBI (16), and he is tied for the lead in stolen bases (8).
