Hector Alejandro got to live out a pitcher’s dream this past Saturday in Norwich.
The former Sacred Heart High standout and current UConn right-hander fired a no-hitter in a 3-1 Norwich Sea Unicorns win over the Worcester Bravehearts in a Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England contest.
Alejandro needed just 86 pitches to navigate nine innings. He threw 55 of those offerings for strikes and struck out five with just one walk and one hit batsman. Alejandro yielded an unearned run in the fifth inning after going perfect through the first four. Norwich actually trailed, 1-0, in the fifth in spite of Alejandro’s no-hitter, but the Sea Unicorns scored twice in the fifth to take the lead for good. Norwich added another run in the sixth for insurance.
Alejandro saw a streak of 15 straight batters retired end with a two-out walk in the top of the ninth inning. He got the next batter to ground out to shortstop to finish his gem and set off a celebration.
Alejandro improved to 4-0 in six games, including four starts. He has a 2.30 ERA over 27.1 innings pitched. Alejandro has allowed 16 hits, walked eight and struck out 19.
