The Bristol Blues found themselves facing elimination on Tuesday night at Muzzy Field against the Valley Blue Sox in Game 2 of their NECBL quarterfinal series.
Bristol gave the ball to former Bristol Eastern right-hander Jagger Duquette, and he turned in a brilliant performance in a 5-0 victory as the Blues forced a winner-take-all Game 3 tonight against the Blue Sox. Duquette fired a complete game two-hitter. He struck out seven, walked two and faced just three batters over the limit (30). Duquette threw 72 of his 103 pitches (69.9%) for strikes.
Duquette improved to 4-0 overall (3-0 regular season) and his ERA fell to 0.91 (1.14 regular season).
Bristol lost Game 1 to Valley, 6-5, in 13 innings on Monday night at McKenzie Stadium in Holyoke, Mass. The Blues led, 5-2, entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Blue Sox scored once in that inning and twice more in the seventh to tie the game. The winning run scored on a throwing error following a sacrifice bunt in the 13th inning.
Game 3 is scheduled for a 6:30 first pitch.
