The Wolcott boys soccer team was at it again on Monday night.
The eighth-seeded Eagles again seized an early lead in an NVL tournament game, this time against fifth-seeded Watertown in a semifinal matchup in the wind and rain at Municipal Stadium’s Ray Snyder Sr. Field.
Wolcott added another goal and won, 2-0, to get to Wednesday evening’s NVL final. The Eagles will play No. 2 Naugatuck, a 1-0 winner over No. 3 St. Paul, at Snyder Field.
Justin Cardinale and Alex Dias scored the goals for Wolcott, and Sam Berninger turned away six shots for the clean sheet.
Wolcott was the lone local winner in a rough NVL semifinal Monday for area teams. In girls soccer, second-seeded Holy Cross fell to third-seeded Watertown, 2-1, at Joe Monroe Field in Wolcott. In girls volleyball, the third-seeded Crusaders claimed the first set against second-seeded Woodland, but the Hawks marched to a 3-1 win and gave themselves a shot at a second straight NVL championship.
