GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Wolcott boasts best record in the area

Wolcott girls volleyball has the best record of any area team at 12-4.
The Eagles have won five of their last six contests, including back-to-back 3-0 victories over Ansonia and Watertown. Wolcott would love to improve its NVL and state tournament seedings in its final three matches, but tough tests await against Naugatuck, Torrington and Woodland.
Wolcott is 2-1 against those three opponents so far this season. The Eagles beat Naugatuck and Woodland by scores of 3-2, and they lost to Torrington by that same 3-2 margin.

Rams having a fine season
Another local having a good year is Bristol Central at 11-5.
The Rams have won two in a row and five of their last six. Central can improve its state tournament seeding, but will have to do so with a pair of difficult matches to end the season. After facing Plainville (3-0 win in first meeting), Central closes against Torrington and city rival Bristol Eastern.

Crusaders on winning streak
Holy Cross has followed up two straight losses with three consecutive wins.
The Crusaders are 10-6 entering their final four matches of the season. Holy Cross has a good chance to improve its NVL and state tournament seedings. The Crusaders face Housatonic, Wilby, Woodland and WCA.

Lancers look to finish strong
Bristol Eastern is 8-6 and looking to go into the postseason on a positive note.
The Lancers face a challenging schedule with matches against Woodstock Academy (12-3), Glastonbury (11-3) and Bristol Central (11-5). Eastern also plays Platt and Plainville.

Falcons, Eagles, Spartans chasing bids
St. Paul (6-9), WCA (6-10) and Kennedy (6-10) are all within striking distance of the postseason.
A team needs to win 40 percent of its regular season matches. The Falcons have done that to this point, but there’s still five more to be played. St. Paul faces Goodwin Tech, Seymour, Ansonia, Northwest Catholic and Lewis Mills.
WCA closes the regular season against Oxford, Kennedy, Holy Cross and O’Brien Tech. Besides the aforementioned matchup with the Spartans, the Eagles take on Nonnewaug, Crosby and Plainville.
