The New England Collegiate Baseball League announced its first team, second team and honorable mentions on Thursday afternoon, and a former Bristol Eastern standout made the top squad.
Jagger Duquette, who was chosen as the Robin Roberts Pitcher of the Year, represented the Bristol Blues on the All-NECBL first team, and with good reason. All Duquette did during the regular season was go 3-0 in seven appearances, all starts, with a 1.14 ERA. In 39.1 innings, Duquette allowed 5 runs (all earned) on 25 hits. He struck out 29, walked just seven, and batters hit just .182 against him.
In the playoffs, Duquette kept Bristol’s season alive with a complete-game shutout (2 hits, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts) in a 5-0 win over the Valley Blue Sox at Muzzy Field in Game 2 of their quarterfinal series. The Blues beat the Blue Sox in Game 3 and wound up making it all the way to the best-of-three championship series. Bristol was swept by the Newport Gulls, but that doesn’t take away from the season that the Blues, or Duquette, had.
