The Bristol Post 2 American Legion baseball program is once again fielding teams at the 17U and 19U levels this summer.
So far, the 17U team has been having more success. Bristol is 10-3 entering its next game Wednesday against Farmington at Tunxis Mead Park. Post 2 has lost their last two games, one to South Windsor and one to Waterford, but they are still having a strong season.
Wolcott native Luke Colfer had a big day for Bristol in its 5-1 win at Norwich last Thursday. Colfer went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Mason Harris of Bristol Eastern had a single and RBI while fellow Lancer Jonathan Montgomery picked up the win after five innings of one-run ball. Fellow Eastern players Caleb Molinsky and Gabriel White each had a single and run scored while fellow Lancer Brayden Schenck was hit by a pitch and scored a run.
Bristol has had strong pitching so far. Molinsky tossed a complete game in a win over Ellington on June 6, then Montgomery fired a complete game shutout against Middletown on June 20. Montgomery leads the team with three wins while Gavin Colvin (Bristol Central), White, Caleb Simard (Central), Jack Ericksen (Plainville High) and Drew Martineau (Eastern) have posted a win apiece.
Bristol has also shown the ability to score runs in bunches. Post 2 has scored eight or more runs five times so far with a high of 22 against RCP on June 15. In that 22-5 victory, White (3-for-4, 2 runs) drove in six runs, followed closely by Mason Harris of Eastern with five (2-for-5, 2 runs) and Martineau (2-for-3, 2 runs) with four. Plainville’s Brian Grabowski went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI. In an 18-2 win over Enfield on June 13, Molinsky, White, Harris and Tate Stevens (Plainville) each had two hits. Bristol won, 10-2, over NCL/Windsor Locks/Windsor on June 10, and Molinsky, White, Montgomery and Stevens tallied two RBIs apiece.
St. Paul player: Steven Lodge, a first baseman and outfielder from the Class of 2025, is on the roster.
BRISTOL 19U
Post 2 is 5-5 (with three games suspended) entering its home game against Tri-County on Wednesday at Muzzy Field. The number of games varies among teams in the four 19U zones, but Bristol has managed to be at .500 despite scoring just 23 runs, tied for the lowest number in the state. Pitching has been a big key for Post 2, especially that of recent Eastern graduate Ryan Maglio. Maglio owns three of the five wins – all complete games – and earned a save in another victory. Molinsky has a pair of victories for Bristol, including one complete game and another effort that lasted six innings.
Wolcott players: Recent Eagle graduates Nicolas Sconziano, Joshua Dunne and Joseph Dunne are all on the team, along with Chase Belisle from the Class of 2022. Belisle played at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford this past spring.
