Bristol Central’s Blair captures triple jump gold at state open meet

When it came to facing the best competition that Connecticut had to offer, Bristol Central senior Treshawn Blair outjumped them all.

Blair reached 46 feet, 11 inches to win the triple jump during Monday’s state open track and field championship at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. Blair reached his mark on the second of six jumps.

“Treshawn Blair is your State Open Champion Triple Jumper🥇,” tweeted Bristol Central coach Tamara Stafford-Kirk. “Broke his own school record with a jump of 46-11.”

Bristol Eastern junior Rayshon Andrews earned a silver medal in the long jump (22-0.75) while Kennedy sophomore Samuel Rivera tied for second place in the high jump (6-2). Kennedy sophomore Erica Austin claimed a bronze medal in the 100 meters (12.18 seconds).

Bristol Eastern senior Jack Mulcunry (800 meters, 1:54.36) and Bristol Central junior Anthony Paulino (triple jump, 44-8.5) each finished fourth in their respective events. Bristol Central junior Kylee Barnes was fifth in the high jump at 5-2.

The WCA boys 4×100 relay of Julian Snead, Khristian Kennedy, Micah Chen and Zyaire Ettson claimed sixth in 43.32. St. Paul senior Tyler Turner placed seventh in 21-3. Andrews finished eighth in the 200 meters in 21.80. WCA junior Lucas Figueiredo was also eighth in the 400 meters in 49.55.

Top six finishers qualify for the New England championships. Seventh and eighth place finishers are alternates. The New England championships are Saturday in Bangor, Maine.
