Silva earns NE-10 weekly top diving honor

When he competed as a diver for the Wilby/Kaynor Tech co-op, Kaynor Tech graduate Matheus Silva was one of the best in the NVL.

Silva has been a strong presence on the Southern Connecticut State University men’s swimming and diving team so far in his senior year. Silva earned Northeast-10 Conference Men’s Diver of the Week honors for the second time this season. In a meet against Division I Yale University, Silva finished third overall in one-meter diving with a score of 237.23. Silva captured first place in one-meter (258.35) and three-meter (234.30) in a meet against Pace University.

Silva finished third in the Class S state diving competition in 2017. Silva is coached at SCSU by NVL legend Stephen Etienne, who was a star at Sacred Heart High School before moving on to The Ohio State University.

The Owls host Adelphi University on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Hutchinson Natatorium. On Sunday, SCSU goes to Albany for a meet against The College of Saint Rose.
