Wolcott softball slams Stonington, sets up quarterfinal rematch at Woodland

The eighth-seeded Wolcott softball team trailed ninth-seeded Stonington by a run after a half inning during Thursday’s Class M quarterfinal game at George Babcock Softball Field.

The Eagles offered a quick response to the Bears by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Wolcott never looked back in a 10-1 victory that clinched its third straight quarterfinal appearance. The Eagles (17-5) are hoping to get to the semifinal round for the first time in this recent stretch. To do so, Wolcott will have to beat undefeated and top-seeded Woodland (24-0).

As for Thursday’s game, there were multiple contributors on offense as the Eagles pounded out 11 hits, including five for extra bases. There were home runs from Jordan Chamberlain and Mayci Abou Arrage, two doubles from Abby Wrinn and a triple from Lizzie Francisco. Wrinn finished with three hits while Kaitlyn Ouellette added two hits.

Ouellette did her biggest damage in the circle, where she fired a complete game. Ouellette gave up a run on six hits and struck out nine.
