Important ticket information via Sacred Heart athletics on Twitter: “NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD IN ADVANCE FOR TOMORROW’S BOY’S BASKETBALL GAME. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., ALL TICKETS are $5, and patrons will be admitted on a first-come first-serve basis.”
As long as the freezing drizzle stays away, the Sacred Heart boys basketball team will host Kennedy tomorrow night at 7 at Alumni Hall in a battle of city unbeatens.
The Hearts, 5-0, have looked nothing short of dominant in their first four games, drubbing their opponents by an average of 38 points. There’s plenty of Division I college talent with Mustapha Heron (Auburn) and Tyrn Flowers on the floor, but don’t forget guys like Charles Fisher, Raheem Solomon and J.T. Riddick, who can hold their own as well.
After sneaking past Holy Cross on a buzzer beater, the Eagles blitzed Woodland, Derby and Torrington by an average of nearly 33 points per game (32.67). As Kennedy head coach Ryan Sullivan pointed out in a video interview with the Waterbury Republican-American after the Torrington win, the Eagles are at their best when their defense creates transition opportunities. In the win over Torrington, Jaivaun McKnight had a team-high 29 points. Lorenzo Benjamin, the hero against Holy Cross, tallied 19 points while Darryl Flowers added 17. Victor Sampson had 15 rebounds and Tyron Stenson dished out 10 assists. Those numbers point to the team effort players spoke of in the Rep-Am postgame video.
For Kennedy to pull the upset against Sacred Heart, it will need that team effort once again. The Hearts enter the game ranked No. 1 in the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT sports writers poll. The Eagles are ranked No. 14.
Get there early, as tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Alumni Hall is not a big place, so if you want a seat, GET THERE EARLY!
