St. Paul baseball pounds away as challenges await them

The St. Paul baseball team is 3-0 following a 12-0 win in five innings over Kennedy in the home opener on Monday afternoon.

It was the second 12-0 victory in the first three games for the Falcons, who did it against Naugatuck in the season opener. In between, St. Paul knocked off Ansonia, 9-2. The Falcons have been led by senior tri-captain Mario Izzo, who has had an extra-base hit in each game so far (3 HR, 2B, 8 RBI). Senior tri-captain Ryan Daniels has three homers and seven RBI.

Junior Jamie Leggett had two hits apiece in the games against Naugatuck and Kennedy (4 RBI combined). A pleasant addition is freshman Cal Chance, who doubled in each of his first two varsity games. Sophomore transfer Joey Tonnotti fired four scoreless innings and also homered in the season opener against Naugatuck. There have also been solid pitching efforts from Tyler Kiluk (6 2/3 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 9 K) against Ansonia and Brendan Foley (4 IP, 1 H, 8 K) against Kennedy.

St. Paul plays at Oxford (2-1 entering today’s game against Oxford) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. and hosts Torrington (2-1 entering today’s game against Wilby) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
