Victor Rosa had about as spectacular an individual high school football season as has been recorded in recent memory in the area.
Rosa, a Bristol Central senior, has been named state football Gatorade Player of the Year. He’s the fourth Ram to be chosen for the honor. Gatorade takes note of a student-athlete’s outstanding athletic and academic efforts, along with the person’s character both on and off the field. Rosa fits all of those qualifications.
The UConn commit was a nightmare to prepare for during his final season.
Farmington head coach Chris Machol had this to say in the Gatorade Player of the Year press release: “Victor Rosa is an absolute monster on the field. What makes him good is that he has a combination of breakaway speed, power, agility and vision. He is one of the better players I have coached against in my 12 years here.”
Rosa ran for 2,728 yards and 41 touchdowns, and he threw for another 849 yards and eight scores. He ran for more than 200 yards nine times, including 409 – and eight touchdowns – in a victory over Tolland. Rosa also played defense, where he tallied 50 tackles, including three for loss, and two forced fumbles.
In the classroom, Rosa has a weighted grade-point average of 4.34. He is the definition of a student-athlete.
