Holy Cross girls use big second half to pass first NVL test against Woodland

Holy Cross girls basketball faced its first major NVL test of the season Thursday night when it hosted Woodland at the Tim McDonald Gymnasium.

The Crusaders used a huge second half to run away from the Hawks, 66-31. Holy Cross improved to 4-0 while Woodland fell to 5-1.

Mya Zaccagnini tallied a game-high 29 points, Cayla Howard added 12 points, Nyasia Smith tallied seven points, and Rachel Healey contributed six points.

Holy Cross led by five points after the first quarter, then extended its lead to eight points, 30-22, by halftime. The Crusaders scored more points in the third quarter than the Hawks did in the first half in a 24-7 surge that built their lead to 54-29. Holy Cross closed out the game with a 12-2 fourth quarter.

The Crusaders get back to work after the new year with road games against Wolcott (Jan. 4) and WCA (Jan. 7).
