Week 3 football: Rosa’s 4-TD night paces Central in victory over Wethersfield

Victor Rosa is a Division I-level playmaker, and he can be a lethal weapon against Bristol Central opponents.

Rosa was an absolute terror against Wethersfield on Friday night, rushing for 240 yards on 26 carries and accounting for all four Ram touchdowns via the ground in a 28-18 win at home. Rosa weaved his way around and through the Eagle defense, and broke a bunch of tackles. If you don’t bring Rosa down, he can turn a modest gain into a huge run, and maybe a touchdown.

Bristol Central improved to 2-1 with the win, its second straight after a season-opening loss at Bloomfield.

Here were the other scores from Week 3 of local high school football:

Thursday
Watertown 24, Wilby 6: James Richards ran for the lone Wildcat touchdown. Wilby (0-3) was tied at halftime, 6-6, but Watertown pulled away in the second half.

Friday
WCA 32, Wolcott 18: D’Vonte Lane ran for two touchdowns, including a 35-yarder that put the game out of reach of the Eagles late in the fourth quarter at Municipal Stadium.
Lane also had a one-yard touchdown run for the Spartans (1-1). Zyaire Ettson ran for a touchdown and threw another to Juan Garcia. Tracy Graves added a one-yard touchdown run.
The Eagles (1-1) got two rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown from Mike Greene. Jahon Rose caught Greene’s touchdown toss.
Ansonia 28, Holy Cross 7: In a battle of 2-0 teams in Ansonia, the Crusaders (2-1) were tied at the half, 7-7.
The second half proved to be all Ansonia, especially the fourth quarter where the Chargers (3-0) put the game away with two touchdowns. David Kacprzyski and Marques Campbell hooked up for the lone Holy Cross touchdown of the game, which tied the contest in the second quarter after Drew Caouette’s extra point.
Woodland 44, Kennedy 6: The Eagles (1-2) have dropped two straight since a 14-0 win over St. Paul in Week 1.
Wilbur Cross 28, Bristol Eastern 12: A tough second half doomed the Lancers (2-1) in their home loss to the Governors.
Wilbur Cross grabbed the lead, 20-12, in the waning seconds of the first half after intercepting an Eastern pass. Alex Marshall ran for a touchdown and Kamden Laprise hit Rayshon Andrews with a touchdown pass, both in the first half.
Crosby at Oxford, ppd.: A COVID case among the Wolverines forced the postponement of this game.

Today
Wilcox/Kaynor is at ATI (Danbury) at 2 p.m. St. Paul hosts Derby in its delayed home opener at 6 p.m. The game was moved from Friday to Saturday due to field conditions following heavy rain.
