St. Paul girls basketball is off to another great start this season entering Friday night’s game at Kennedy. The Falcons have defeated Holy Cross, Woodland, Derby and Crosby.
It’s the fifth straight year that St. Paul has started a season 4-0. The first win, over Holy Cross inside Tim McDonald Gymnasium, didn’t come easy. The Falcons won 57-54, and they were helped big-time by the return of Janessa Gonzalez. Gonzalez, who missed half of last season due to injury, scored 26 points against Holy Cross. Teammate Jade Udoh tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds against the Crusaders.
Gonzalez and Udoh each went off again in a 52-25 win over Woodland. Gonzalez scored 20 points and Udoh added 19. Gonzalez tallied five 3-pointers in the victory.
When St. Paul beat Derby 41-21, Udoh put together another double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, plus four steals. Sophia Gerst came off of the bench for eight points.
Gonzalez (17) and Udoh (13) again scored in double figures in a 46-35 home win over Crosby. Olivia Heslin scored nine points while Olivia Heslin added six points.
