Greeners trying to turn things around in first GHTBL season

The Bristol Greeners have had their ups and downs in their first season in the Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League.

Bristol (5-12) is in last place in the competitive 10-team league, a half-game behind the Hartford Colts. The Greeners are trying to turn things around, and they picked up a 3-2 win over the Hartford Colts on Wednesday at Johnny Taylor Field. That win was the second in the last three games for Bristol. The Greeners play their final game of the regular season on Friday against the Vernon Orioles at Bristol Central High School. The time of the game is to be determined.

Bristol has had a chance to take part in two GHTBL charity games this season. The Greeners took on Malloves Jewelers in a Hardball for Heroes game on June 2 at Palmer Field in Middletown. On Monday evening, Bristol played People’s United Bank in the first game of the Crush Cancer Night doubleheader at Dunkin Donuts Park in Hartford. The Greeners lost the game, 4-0, but all four teams who took part in the double dip – the Hartford Colts played the East Hartford Jets in the nightcap – and their fans helped raise $5,264 for the CT Cancer Foundation and the Brian Peer Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship goes to a Windsor High baseball player who will be attending college.
