For Clingan, big numbers keep on coming; don’t forget about those other Rams, though

Bristol Central junior superstar Donovan Clingan put up two different kinds of triple-doubles in wins over Farmington and Southington earlier this month.

Clingan went for 15 points, 25 rebounds and 10 blocks in the 55-41 victory over Farmington. On March 4, Clingan posted 14 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a 55-31 victory over Southington.

The big games continued in three more wins over Plainville, Lewis Mills and New Britain as the Rams pushed to 11-0. Clingan tied his career-high with 37 points – along with 17 rebounds and 8 blocks – in a 74-41 rout of Plainville on March 8 at home. On March 12, Clingan tallied 30 points, 15 rebounds, seven blocks and three assists in a 70-51 win at Lewis Mills. Clingan began the final week of the regular season with a 14-point, five-block effort against New Britain, which Central blew away, 73-40, Monday on the road.

It will be real fun to see what Clingan does against the best teams in the CCC during the postseason. Central will be one of the top eight teams playing for the title of tournament champion, though each team is guaranteed two games. The other seven teams – as of today’s post – include the likes of Northwest Catholic, East Catholic, Maloney, Windsor and Middletown. The first three teams are undefeated, and Windsor and Middletown have one loss apiece (Windsor to Northwest Catholic and Middletown to Maloney).

First, the Rams must finish the regular season. Central is scheduled to host Bristol Eastern on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Other Rams can hurt opposition as well: Clingan gets the spotlight, but his teammates can hurt the opposition when it pays too much attention to the 7-foot-1 center, as was pointed out by Mike Letendre of The Bristol Edition.

Sean Wininger had 13 points and Damion Glasper added 11 in the Lewis Mills win. Glasper connected for a career-high 25 points in the New Britain victory. Victor Rosa scored 11 points in that New Britain game while Wininger and D’Ante Ross added 10 apiece.
