WCSU student-athletes recognize their first responder parents

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken away the fall and winter sports seasons for athletes at schools like Western Connecticut State University.

Those Colonials are putting others ahead of themselves by recognizing them via “Our tribute to First Responders and Essential Workers.”

Prospect native Gina Poulin, a Sacred Heart High graduate and WCSU senior cross country runner, recognized her parents Mark and Carolyn. Mark Poulin is a teacher in the Waterbury school system while Carolyn works as a registered nurse at Waterbury Hospital. Both have been in their professions for 40 years.

“Thank you to my parents for their constant support and inspiration,” Gina Poulin said. “They are always going above and beyond to put others first especially during trying times.”

Hannah Maghini, a Bristol Eastern graduate and WCSU junior basketball player, recognized her parents Paul and Michele. Paul has been a firefighter for 30-plus years and works at the Bristol Fire Department. Michelle has been a teacher for 25-years and works in Bristol Public Schools.

“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me,” Hannah Maghini said.

WCSU opted out of winter sports play in the Little East Conference. The LEC canceled the fall sports season.
