One win, one tie in first matchups between Bristol Eastern-Bristol Central

Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central met on the volleyball and soccer pitch in the first matchups between the Bell City schools on Saturday.

The girls volleyball match went in favor of the host Lancers, 3-1. The set scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-11, 25-20. Eastern continued its long winning streak against Central. For the Lancers, Zoe Lowe had 20 kills, seven aces and 17 digs; Ryley Plourde had 10 kills and two aces; Leah Chipman had 45 assists; Hannah Webber had eight kills and five aces; Sage Scarritt had six kills; and Lauren Bender had three kills and 10 digs. Emily Ericson led the Rams with 18 kills and 10 digs.

The girls soccer teams met at Bristol Central, and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Central’s Rachel Wygant put her team ahead, 1-0, late in the first half on a penalty kick. Eastern’s Ciara Collins scored with 12 minutes left in regulation to tie the game, 1-1. The keepers, Maddy Corocoran for the Rams and Grace D’Amato for the Lancers, did their part to keep their teams in it.

The volleyball teams are scheduled to meet again on Oct. 29 at Bristol Central. The girls soccer teams are scheduled to play again on Oct. 30 at Bristol Eastern.

The boys soccer teams were also supposed to play Saturday, but their game was postponed because of a positive COVID test from another opponent. That matchup has yet to be rescheduled. The other meeting is slated for Oct. 29 at Bristol Central.

Bristol Eastern cross country is scheduled to host Bristol Central on Wednesday. The girls swimming and diving teams are scheduled to meet at the Dennis Malone Aquatic Center on Wednesday.
