Bristol U17 continues terrific season, leads Division 1

Bristol U17 lost for the first time in this CT Elite Baseball Association season, 5-3, to West Hartford on July 22. That defeat is the only one for the Mum City nine at this level.

Bristol won its first 11 games, then picked up where it left off with a 4-0 victory over Meriden on July 23. With the win, Bristol improved to 12-1. Dylan Woodsome tossed a complete-game, five-hitter on 84 pitches at Riley Field against Meriden.

Woodsome (3-0) and the pitching staff have been a big key for Bristol. They have yielded just 21 runs, which is the lowest amount at the U17 level (25 teams). Bristol has outscored its opponents, 75-21. Matt Beaucar and Ryan Fradette combined on a five-hitter in a 5-0 win over Simsbury on July 20.

There have been some close calls for Bristol. On July 15, they scored two runs in the seventh to get past West Hartford, 6-5, at Conard High School. On July 21, Bristol scored two runs in the seventh to overtake Winsted, 3-2, at Muzzy Field. Adam Caron won to improve to 2-0.

Bristol continues a suspended game against Simsbury today at Simsbury. Bristol was ahead, 2-1, in the top of the third inning when the game was suspended due to rain. On Tuesday, Bristol faces Avon at 5:30 at Avon’s Buckingham Field. On Wednesday, they take on Winsted at home at 5:30 at Riley Field. On Saturday, Bristol and Newington pick up a suspended scoreless game at 1 p.m. at Riley Field. They play a full game at 2:30 p.m. to close the regular season.
