St. Paul boys three wins away from another state tourney berth

Don’t look now, but the St. Paul boys basketball team is three wins away from making the state tournament for a 14th straight season.

The Falcons were 2-4 following a loss at Naugatuck on Jan. 13. Since then, St. Paul has gone 3-1 with the lone loss coming at Ansonia on Jan. 17. The Falcons have done a good job winning their home games lately. St. Paul hammered Watertown, one of the surprises of the NVL boys basketball season thus far, 64-39, on Jan. 15 at home. After the Ansonia loss, St. Paul returned home to play Wolcott on Wednesday and emerged with an 81-47 victory. The Falcons took down Waterbury Career Academy on Friday at home by a score of 60-48 and improved to 5-5.

In the Watertown win, Will Barton had 20 points and seven rebounds while Noah Waters tallied 17 points and six rebounds. AJ Brooks went off for 22 points and 20 rebounds in the Wolcott victory. On Friday, Waters canned seven 3-pointers on his way to 29 points.
