Indoor track and field athletes from several local schools competed in the fourth annual Wilton Wright Invitational on Monday at Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven.
There were two winners from the area, and both came from Wolcott. Senior Kathryn Rodrigues won the 1,600 meters in 5:23.94 while junior Nick Bendtsen was first in the 1,600 meters in 4:32.63. Teammate Ethan Brissette, a junior, was ninth in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.
Bristol Central put together some strong efforts, led by a second place finish from the girls 4×400-meter relay. The team of senior Mia Hinton, freshman Rebecca Litwinczyk, junior Emma Stone and junior Christine Attle finished the race in 4:27.40. Individually for the girls, junior Natalia Popielarz took fourth in the 1,600 meters in 5:43.41 and sixth in the 600 meters in 1:50.37; and Attle was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 10:21. For the Central boys, junior Nate DeAngelo took second place in the 1,600 meters in 4:32.95; sophomore Jarrett Boxley was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.52; senior Ramon Ambert was fourth in the 55-meter dash in 6.80; senior Mark Petrosky was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:35.67; and senior Galen Hickey was fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 6 inches.
Bristol Eastern got a fifth place finish from the girls 4×400-meter relay of freshman Julia Armington, sophomore Sophia Bouchard, junior Avery Braccia and sophomore Fiona Gallagher. They finished the race in 4:31.51. Individually, Braccia was fifth in the 600 meters in 1:48.04; freshman Victoria Kosciukiewicz was seventh in the 600 in 1:52.91; sophomore Isabell Fulton was ninth in the pole vault at 6 feet; and sophomore Dante Marciano was 10th in the 600 in 1:31.36.
