Bristol Central boys claim tourney title behind Clingan, Brown

The Bristol Central boys basketball team topped Greenwich, 66-48, on Monday night to capture the Bristol Central Holiday Tournament title. Donovan Clingan was named the tournament MVP and Austin Brown made the all-tournament team.

The Rams started the tournament with a 71-38 win over Wolcott on Saturday. Greenwich defeated South Windsor in the other game, 40-38, to reach the tournament championship.

“We’ve been hosting now for four years, had some tough luck along the way,” Central coach Tim Barrette told WFSB Channel 3’s Elliott Polakoff after the game. “Greenwich is a good team. They play solid man-to-man defense. We did a great job tonight on the glass, and we were lucky to come away with the victory tonight.”

Central (3-1) begins the 2020 portion of its season on Friday with a home game against New Britain at 6:45 p.m.

Wolcott lost the consolation game to South Windsor, 60-55. The Eagles (0-4) open 2020 on Friday against Watertown at home at 7 p.m.
