Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech football gets first win

Someone was going to come away with their first win of the season when the Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech and Crosby football teams met Saturday on the turf at Municipal Stadium.

The co-op built a 16-point lead, only to see the Bulldogs cut that margin to two points. In the fourth quarter, SH/KT’s lead was again two points, but the co-op held on for a 22-20 win over Crosby. SH/KT improved to 1-4 while the Bulldogs dropped to 0-5.

The co-op built a 16-0 lead on two touchdown passes from Alexandre Gonzalez, one to Marquis Williams and the other to Josue Salazar. Crosby pulled to within 16-14 on a pair of Michael Scott touchdown runs. Gonzalez ran for a score to get SH/KT back to a 22-14 lead, but a third touchdown run by Scott brought the Bulldogs to within 22-20 with 4:08 to play in the game.

Each team fumbled on its next possession. After SH/KT recovered the Crosby fumble, it was able to get a first down and run out the clock to win the game.

Both teams have a bye this week. SH/KT is at Woodland on Oct. 25 for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff while Crosby plays at St. Paul on Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
