First city matchups between BC, BE produced some memorable moments

The first matchups of the fall between Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern began on Oct. 4 with the city cross country meet and concluded on Saturday with the annual city swimming and diving meet at the Dennis Malone Aquatic Center.

Here’s a look at what happened:

Friday, Oct. 4
Cross country
The city meet produced the first memorable moment of the matchups between the Mum City’s public schools. That moment was the Bristol Eastern girls taking down Bristol Central, 24-31. It was the first win for the Lancers over the Rams in 11 years. Eastern also defeated St. Paul to win the team championship. The Central boys knocked off Eastern and St. Paul to claim its 16th straight city championship.

Monday, Oct. 7
Boys soccer
The iron was unkind to Bristol Eastern at Bristol Central High School. Both teams had chances, but the Lancers fired shots off the post and crossbar that could have resulted in victory. Instead, the teams settled for a 1-1 tie, the third tie in the last five meetings between the schools. David Bowes scored for the Rams while Dominik Ferniak did the honors for the Lancers. Daniel Gaudoin was the keeper for Central while Nate DiLoreto was in goal for Eastern.

Tuesday, Oct. 8
Girls soccer
Salvatrice Bosco’s goal with just over seven minutes remaining was the lone tally in a 1-0 Bristol Central win at Bristol Eastern. It was the third game to be decided by a goal or less in the last five meetings between the schools. Liz Hintz played in goal for Central while Maura Cyr was the keeper for Eastern.

Girls volleyball
This match at Bristol Eastern was nothing short of amazing. In the end, someone had to win, and it was the host Lancers who did the winning, by a score of 3-2 (30-32, 27-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-13). Eastern hasn’t lost to Central in the past 24 years. The Lancers were led by Zoe Lowe (21 kills, 11 digs); Ryley Plourde (13 kills, 3 blocks); Hannah Webber (9 kills, 4 aces, 4 blocks); Leah Chipman (7 aces, 52 assists); Sage Scarritt (5 aces); and Rebecca Bender (14 digs).
