Former Holy Cross High School and Putnam Science Academy standout Ta’Quan “Tootie” Zimmerman is headed back to Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The Waterbury native signed a one-year deal with Halifax on Thursday. The Hurricanes posted a video of Zimmerman signing his contract with him saying simply, “I’m back”, at the end of it. The Hurricanes are part of the National Basketball League of Canada.
The last time Zimmerman played in Halifax, he was the NBLC’s Sixth Man of the Year. That’s what happens when you are instant offense and energy off of the bench, like Zimmerman was during the 2017-2018 season. He became just the second player in NBLC history to record 100 3-pointers, 100 rebounds and 100 assists off of the bench.
“Inked 1 year deal with the Halifax Hurricanes in The National Basketball League of Canada #GodisGood #Season6,” Zimmerman wrote in a Facebook post.
Zimmerman played two seasons in Halifax before suiting up for a short time with the Cape Breton Highlanders, also of the NBLC, during the 2018-2019 season.
“Ta’Quan has demonstrated he is one of the best outside shooters in the league while playing for the Hurricanes. He shot 38 percent and 40 percent from the three-point line in two seasons with us, making some clutch shots to win games while garnering the NBLC Sixth man of the Year award in 2018,” Halifax head coach Mike Leslie said in a post on the team website.
Zimmerman has been active in the Brass City, and he became a member of the Holy Cross High School Board of Education earlier this month.
