Sacred Heart ready for first varsity girls volleyball season

Sacred Heart has a new addition to its fall sports varsity lineup. The girls volleyball team debuts on Monday, Sept. 16, against Seymour at 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall.

The Hearts practically live inside Alumni Hall for the first couple of weeks of varsity matches in the program’s history. After Seymour, Sacred Heart hosts Woodland on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. The Hearts play their first varsity road match on Sept. 19 against St. Paul.

Sacred Heart plays its next two matches at home against Watertown and Wolcott on Sept. 23 and 24. Both of those matches are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

The Hearts will need all the home support they can get. Seymour is the defending Class M state champion. Woodland reached the Class M semifinals, where it lost to Seymour, 3-0. St. Paul earned a No. 5 seed in the Class S state tournament. Wolcott played in the Class M state tournament, and Watertown wasn’t far away from earning a berth in the same bracket.

Sacred Heart is scheduled to play 18 varsity matches in its first varsity season. Nine are home and the other nine are away.
