Bristol’s Donovan Clingan gets offered by Syracuse

Bristol Central 6-foot-10 sophomore Donovan Clingan received the first of what is sure to be a bushel of Division I college basketball scholarship offers.

The offer came on Monday from Jim Boeheim and Syracuse University. Clingan shared news about the offer on social media. Clingan thanked his family, along with his AAU coaches and teammates for all of their help and support. The last thank you was reserved for Boeheim and Syracuse.

“Lastly, I would like to thank Coach Jim Boeheim and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me the offer!” Clingan wrote on Instagram. “I am truly blessed and humbled to receive this!”

Former UConn big and current Woodstock Academy prep assistant coach Jonathan Mandeldove had nothing but praise for Clingan.

“Best big in the 2022 class,” Mandeldove tweeted in a reply to Clingan’s Twitter post about the offer.

Clingan was nearly a 20-20 player — as in 20 points, 20 rebounds per game — as a freshman at Bristol Central. He plays for Boston-based Team Spartans in the offseason. Clingan joined Team Spartans back in June.
