HIGH 5 OF THE WEEK: Logan Marchi named NEC Offensive Player of the Week

The graduate student and former St. Paul standout had another huge game for the Pioneers, and he earned conference honors for the effort.

Marchi was named Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week after tying the Sacred Heart program record for touchdown passes in a game with six. The six tosses came in a 56-40 shootout at Lafayette.

Marchi completed 22 of his 32 pass attempts for 429 yards, the six touchdowns and no interceptions. His longest pass of the game went for 75 yards and a touchdown to Dezio Snelling. Marchi got several chances to show off his deep-throwing ability, and he took advantage.

Marchi threw touchdowns of 7, 75, 24, 20, 65 and 37 yards. He started the game 3-for-5, including a seven-yard scoring pass to Snelling to put the Pioneers ahead 7-3 with 6:22 left in the first quarter. On the first play of the next Sacred Heart drive, Marchi hit Snelling for the 75-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 14-3 with 1:14 left in the first quarter.

The Pioneers fell behind 24-14, but Marchi got going again with a 24-yard touchdown to Tyrese Chambers to cut the deficit to 24-21 with 57 seconds remaining in the first half. Marchi went 4-for-7 on the first drive of the second half, which ended with a Julius Chestnut one-yard touchdown run and a 28-24 lead with 10:49 to go. On the next drive, Marchi hit Chambers for a 20-yard scoring pass and a 35-27 lead with 5:40 left in the third quarter.

After a Lafayette punt, Marchi went 4-for-4 on the next drive, including a 65-yard scoring strike to Snelling for a 42-27 lead with 1:06 to play in the third quarter. With the lead at 49-27, Marchi threw a 37-yard touchdown pass, his sixth of the game, to Yasir Berry to up the advantage to 56-27 with 8:49 to play in the game.

Myah Croze, Western Connecticut State University soccer

The former Bristol Eastern star continues to be a big goal scorer in her first season with the Colonials. For her recent efforts, she earned conference accolades.

Croze was named Little East Conference Rookie of the Week after a three-goal effort over two games. She scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to Vassar College, then tallied two in a 3-1 victory over Western New England University.

Croze is second in the LEC with five goals. She is tied for second in the conference with 34 shots, tied for second with 18 shots on goal, and tied for third with 10 points.

Terrell Patterson, Southern Connecticut State University cross country

The former Kaynor Tech standout helped the Owls to a second place finish at the Division II/III Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Kutztown University.

Patterson was the first SCSU runner to cross the finish line. The junior finished third overall with a time of 25:55.6 in the 8K race. Patterson was 1.2 seconds off of second place finisher Lucas Clark of Malone, and he was 5.1 seconds off of the first place finisher, Lucas Taxter of Stonehill College (25:50.5).

Patterson finished fourth in the season-opening Adelphi Panthers Cross Country Invitational. Ironically, Patterson was the third Owl to cross the finish line in an 8K that was dominated by SCSU. The Owls claimed nine of the first 10 spots.

Pacifico Flores, Fairfield University cross country

The former Bristol Central star didn’t have to wait long to get his first official run in with the Stags.

The freshman was one of the five Fairfield runners to score points in the season-opening Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Invitational, which was hosted by Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Flores was the fifth Stag to cross the finish line in the 8K race, and he did so in 56th place with a time of 27:15.8. Flores was 64th overall, but was adjusted to 56th place because of individual competitors that didn’t count toward team standings. Flores averaged 5:29 per mile in the 8K, which was just under five miles long.

Fairfield was one of 11 teams to compete in the Nassaney Invitational, with most coming from Division I.

Madi Bushka, Sacred Heart University soccer

The former Holy Cross High School standout has seen some playing time as a freshman with the Pioneers.

Bushka has played in SHU’s last six games, including four starts. Bushka, a Watertown native, is a defender for the Pioneers, who are 4-3-1 in their first eight games. SHU has given up a goal or less in four of the six games Bushka has played in, which includes three wins and a tie.

Bushka made her first collegiate start on Aug. 29 at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. The game ended in a 0-0 tie.
