Former St. Paul, Post 2 righty Lahey gets his first win as a Bristol Blues pitcher

In the summer of 2017, St. Paul graduate Wes Lahey took to the mound at Muzzy Field multiple times for the Bristol Post 2 American Legion baseball team.

Fast forward to the summer of 2019, and Lahey has returned to the Muzzy mound, this time as a member of the Bristol Blues (Futures Collegiate Baseball League of New England). Lahey, a Southington native, pitched in his first game for the Blues on June 13 in a 10-6 road loss to the Brockton Rox. On June 19, Lahey made his home debut in a 7-0 win over the North Shore Navigators.

On Tuesday night, Lahey recorded his first win as a Blue. The right-hander pitched 1.2 innings in relief of starter Arjun Thakar in a 7-3 win at the Worcester Bravehearts. Lahey gave up a run on two hits, struck out one batter and hit another. The key part of Lahey’s performance, however, was his ability to escape a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth inning.

It was bases loaded, two outs and Worcester had cut Bristol’s lead to 5-2. Lahey got the Braveheart batter to pop out to first baseman Kasey Bass to end the threat. Lahey pitched a 1-2-3 fifth inning, but ran into trouble in the sixth and was replaced with one out. Still, Lahey did enough to garner the win and run his record to 1-0.

Lahey has pitched five innings in three appearances and has allowed three runs (all earned) on five hits. He has struck out two, walked two and hit a batter.
