The Wolcott doubles duo of Alexander Fishbein and Tyler Shoban had the best run of any local boys tennis players during the state tournament. Fishbein and Shoban reached the third round of Class M before losing to Drew Berkin and Brian Nordinger of Weston, 6-2, 6-1.
Still, Fishbein and Shoban put together a solid run. Fishbein and Shoban defeated New Fairfield’s Michael Azzi and Brian Kunak, 6-1, 6-0, in the first round. In the second round, Fishbein and Shoban took down East Haven’s Joe Brown and Matt DeVito, 6-3, 6-1.
Fishbein and Shoban weren’t the only Wolcott duo to win a match in Class M. Tyler Fruin-Swartout and Miles Shoban defeated Jonathan Law’s Julien Roy and Brian Zirkel in a marathon first round match, 5-7, 7-6(2), 10-5. Fruin-Swartout and Shoban were eliminated by Bethel’s Adarsh Rao Makarla and Aditya Rao Makarla, 6-1, 6-2.
Class L
Bristol Eastern saw one of its singles players win a match. Kurt Miskell defeated Nathan Meglio of Kennedy, 8-4, in an opening round match. Miskell was eliminated in the first round by Wilton’s Dylan Koziol.
Bristol Central put a doubles team through to the second round. Anthony Fasci and Joseph Guerin defeated Kennedy’s Kevin Demiraj and Aldin Sabovic, 6-3, 6-1. Fasci and Guerin were ousted by East Lyme’s Guillem Colon and Jonathan Tan.
