Sacred Heart baseball loses opener on walk-off single

Sacred Heart baseball lost a tough one on opening day, 2-1 at Thomaston on Saturday. The Golden Bears got a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh to walk off with the win over the Hearts. It was the season opener for both teams.

Sacred Heart scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to go ahead 1-0. Hector Alejandro doubled to lead off the frame, then Zach LaFerriere singled with two outs for the game’s first run. Thomaston answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game.

Alejandro pitched the first 5.1 innings and allowed one run on four hits. He struck out eight and walked six. LaFerriere tossed an inning in relief and took the loss. Alejandro had two hits on the day.
