Bristol Eastern and St. Paul advanced to the quarterfinal round of the CIAC girls basketball state tournament with wins on Thursday night.
Eastern, the No. 9 seed in Class L, blasted No. 8 Naugatuck 69-45 at Naugatuck High School. Ciara Collins (19 points), Jordan Ouellette (16), Cali-Rose Doyon (12) and Julia Gettings (10) all reached double figures for the Lancers, who used a suffocating full-court press to beat the Greyhounds. Eastern faces top-seeded Notre Dame-Fairfield in a quarterfinal round game on Monday at 7 p.m. in Fairfield.
St. Paul, the No. 3 seed in Class S, blew out No. 14 Parish Hill 73-27 at St. Paul Catholic. Jade Udoh scored 19 points while Janessa Gonzalez added 18 points for the Falcons. St. Paul held an opponent under 30 points for the second straight state tournament game. The Falcons host No. 11 Bloomfield in a quarterfinal round game on Monday at 7 p.m.
No. 4 Sacred Heart and No. 12 Holy Cross each lost their Class M second round games on Friday night. The Hearts lost 50-38 to No. 13 Sheehan of Wallingford on Friday night inside Alumni Hall. The Crusaders fell 71-47 to No. 28 Weaver of Hartford inside the Tim McDonald Gymnasium.
Cayla Howard scored 17 points to lead Holy Cross. Nadia French-Graham had six points and Alyssa Hebb tallied five points while Jasmine Thorpe and Allie Brown added four points apiece. The Crusaders lose seniors Thorpe, Allie Brown, Hannah Brown, French-Graham, Ja’Lin Waters and Elise Pelletier to graduation.
Aamya Rivera led Sacred Heart with 18 points while Mikayla Mobley added 12. The Hearts lose seniors Adalena Francis, Hayley Tucker and Stephanie Van Duzer to graduation.
