Former Crosby star Jordan Booker has just been unstoppable for Dean College, and he claimed another New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week award.
Booker was named Player of the Week for the second straight time — and the fourth time overall — this season.
Booker helped Dean surge into second place in the NECC standings by doing a little bit of everything in two victories. Booker played all 80 minutes and averaged 23.0 points, 9.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals. He made 50 percent of his field goals and 88.9 percent of his free throws.
In a 94-86 win over Becker College, Booker wasn’t that far from a triple-double. He had 19 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and two steals. The Bulldogs took a 90-76 victory over Elms College later in the week, and Booker nearly put together another double-double. He had 27 points, nine assists, four rebounds and five steals.Booker was named Player of the Week for the second straight time — and the fourth time overall — this season.
Damian Grant, Albertus Magnus College basketball
The junior and former Wilby standout earned his way onto the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honor for his efforts in a pair of Falcon victories.
Grant averaged 15.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the floor. Albertus had a big 88-84 road win over the University of Saint Joseph, and Grant recorded his third double-double of the season. He had 15 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Albertus recorded another road win, 98-93 at Lasell, and Grant was again in the middle of the action. He had 16 points and five rebounds in that victory.
Albertus has won four straight games to improve to 15-7. Grant has made 19 starts in 19 games and is averaging 9.5 points and a team-best 5.7 rebounds.
Kim Hylan, Sacred Heart University swimming and diving
The former standout St. Paul student-athlete was one of two juniors honored during her team’s Senior Day festivities on Feb. 2. Hylan was part of three different wins during Sacred Heart’s 178-120 victory over St. Francis-Brooklyn.
Hylan finished first individually in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.49. She was also part of two winning relays. Hylan teamed with Jessica Poole, Fiona Maxwell and Nicole Tingley to claim first in the 200 medley relay (1:52.61). In the 200 freestyle relay, Hylan joined up with Emily Peter, Grace Bergstrom and Lauren Somers to place first (1:41.92).
Hylan has been on the NEC Academic Honor Roll while attending Sacred Heart. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Society while attending St. Paul.
Zac Thompson, University of Southern Maine wrestling
The Huskies swept a tri-match with wins over New England College and Wesleyan University this past Sunday, and the former Bristol Eastern standout had a big win in his lone bout of the day.
Thompson wrestled Wesleyan’s Aaron Goldman at 157 pounds. Goldman came in ranked eighth in the New England Wrestling Association, but Thompson got the best of him and scored a 9-4 decision. The decision put Southern Maine ahead 12-7 at the time. The Huskies went on to win a tight one, 21-17, over the host Cardinals.
Thompson, a junior, is studying Criminology.
Drew Dantino, Southern Connecticut State swimming and diving
The senior and former Sacred Heart High School standout helped the Owls to a second place overall in the Northeast-10 Conference championship meet at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Dantino was part of two first place relays for SCSU. He combined with Tyler Castellone, Leo LaPorte and Greg Rodriguez for a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:32.18). In the 400 medley relay, Dantino teamed up with Castellone, LaPorte and Max Padro to take first in 3:21.63.
Individually, Dantino was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.17) and third in the 100 breaststroke (57.28).
