The Bristol 19U American Legion baseball team has picked a good time for a turnaround.
Post 2 (8-6) has a three-game win streak entering this evening’s Zone 1 road game against Simsbury. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 at Memorial Field.
Bristol was 5-6 entering the Stars & Stripes Tournament on June 29-30 in Simsbury. Post 2 put up 10 runs in the second inning of a 10-0 mercy rule win over EHM (East Hartford and Manchester) on June 29. Two runs in the top of the seventh inning put away NCL in a 4-1 victory on June 30.
On July 2, Bristol upended a solid Danbury squad, 2-1, in eight innings at Muzzy Field. Connor Cyr had two hits and drove in both runs, including the game-winner in the eighth. Ryan Maglio picked up the win in relief after a strong start from Gavin Colvin. Maglio threw 2⅓ innings 0 runs, 35 pitches) after Colvin had gone the first 5⅔ (1 run, 69 pitches).
The win was Maglio’s in the past three games after he picked up one with four innings of shutout ball against EHM. Declan Schenck threw a scoreless inning of relief behind Maglio against EHM.
Thomas Pirog was the winning pitcher against NCL, and Rocco Spirito, normally the team’s steady backstop at catcher, picked up the save. Pirog gave up a run on 76 pitches over the first four innings, then Spirito shut out NCL on 49 pitches over the final three frames.
