Kennedy boys off to 2-0 start

Kennedy boys basketball has claimed wins against Derby and Oxford to get off to a 2-0 start this season. The Eagles have defeated Derby 79-55 and Oxford 73-61.

Jay Turner transferred into Kennedy from Waterbury Career Academy for last season. Another WCA transfer, Matt Torres, joined Turner and the Eagles for this season. Torres played quarterback for Kennedy in the fall before stepping onto the court.

Turner (25) and Torres (21) combined for 46 of the 79 points in the Dec.18 win over Derby inside the Jack Taglia Gymnasium at Kennedy High School. After an even first half, the Eagles blasted the Red Raiders 46-22 in the second half. Jaquane Jones, Synciere Dozier, Kyle Brown and Khazzier Norwood also contributed offensively.

Turner scored 27 points to lead Kennedy in the Dec. 20 win at Oxford. Torres again reached double figures (13 points) while Manny Beamon, Dozier, Jones and Brown helped out on offense. Kennedy hosts Wethersfield on Saturday at 1 p.m. before heading up Oronoke Road to play Holy Cross on Thursday, Dec. 27. The Eagles are already more than a quarter of the way to their seven-win total of the 2017-2018 season.
